With a long week of work behind, I tried to understand better what made us stick to our objectives, enjoy what we are doing and learn something from it.

a) A working process that works for you can do wonders.

Our brain is a muscle (in the end of the day) and the more we exercise it consistently the better it works.

In a world of multiple distractions, productivity is directly connected with our capacity (and process) to say no to things that make us lose focus.

I once meet a CEO of worldwide corporation, that was opening his e-mail three times a day, morning, noon and end of working day.

He would print out all the mails, reply straight away and get back to other matters.

I have tried the same approach ever since and the increase of productivity is outstanding.

In between opening hours let me assure you that the world does not end if some e-mail have to wait some hours for a reply.

b) The joy of life is not external to ourselves, starts and ends in our own existence

 Fernando Pessoa* once wrote:

“Be whole in everything. Put all you are
Into the smallest thing you do”

We might think that some tasks are hard to execute because they go against our own nature, which usually lies within our comfort zone.
If you go about to do something that you dont particularly like without all your dedication, it just becomes harder and harder.
Trick your brain, and tell yourself that you love it, that you will enjoy and will find new interesting things.
The task might still take the same amount of time but i can assure you that the outcome will be much better.

c) To get something means that you need to be open to receive something.
To learn means that you are in position to acquire a knowledge or skill.
The moment we believe (deeply) that we know already enough of what we need, we stop listening, and as a consequence, we close ourselves to others, to new knowledge and new skills.
I guess that if you keep yourself aware of your own limits and let curiosity lead the way, you will always end up learning something, whatever situation or person you are facing.
I once meet a person that despite the fact he worked all is life in the same job and location he was always changing the route to work, triggering his own brain with stimulus of new perspectives.
Give it a try, I am pretty sure you will learn something.

A final note for a story I read trough a friends post in Facebook, about a young boy named Zack Sobiech**.

Whatever challenges I had during the week, turn out to be quite insignificant while watching the video about his life.

Take 20m of your time that in return might change  the next 20 years of your life.

Zack honored fully the words of Fernando Pessoa

“Put all you are
Into the smallest thing you do”

Have a wonderful week!
